The tool

What a virtual try-on actually does

It analyzes your selfie, finds your hair — not your face, not the background — and recolors it while keeping your hair's natural texture, shine, and the lighting in your photo. That's the difference between a real try-on tool and a flat social-media filter: the result respects your hair, so the preview stays believable.

A shade that looks stunning on a swatch card can land completely differently on your own strands. And a color correction costs far more than the original appointment. Seeing the result on your own face first is the cheapest insurance against color regret.

Pro tips

Getting the most realistic preview

  • Start sharp and well-lit. Blurry or dim photos give the AI less to work with.
  • Keep hair fully visible. Pull it forward over your shoulders so the whole length gets colored.
  • Try one shade in two lights. Indoor and outdoor light change how a color reads — noticeably.
  • Save what you love. A downloaded preview is a genuinely useful reference for your appointment.
  • Treat it as a decision aid. The salon result still depends on your base color, porosity, and technique.

Where the preview lies — read this

  • Dark hair going light: the tool shows the target shade, but getting there from dark hair usually means bleach — sometimes over multiple sessions.
  • Lighting flatters: a shade previewed in daylight can look deeper or duller under warm indoor light. Test both.
  • Texture matters: porous, damaged, or previously colored hair grabs dye unevenly. Virgin hair takes color most predictably.
  • Fantasy colors fade: pastels and vivids look electric in preview and wash out in weeks. That's normal — plan for upkeep.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Is this virtual hair color try-on free?

Yes — completely free, no signup, no account. Every one of the 20 shades is available to try.

Is my photo uploaded or stored anywhere?

No. Everything runs inside your browser on your own device. Your photo is never uploaded, stored, sent to a server, or seen by anyone — including us.

How accurate is the preview?

A close approximation, not a guarantee. The AI maps your actual hair and preserves texture and lighting — far more realistic than a filter — but the real result also depends on your starting shade, porosity, condition, and your colorist's technique.

Does it work on dark hair?

Yes. The tool detects and recolors dark hair — but treat light shades on dark hair as a target. Reaching platinum from near-black usually requires bleaching, which the preview can't simulate.

Does it work on short, curly, or men's hair?

Yes — the AI detects hair regardless of length, texture, or style. Very short buzz cuts give it less area to work with, so the preview is subtler.

Can I use it on my phone?

Yes — phones, tablets, desktop. On mobile you can open your camera directly or upload from your photo library.

How is this different from a social-media filter?

Filters paint a flat wash over a rough guess. This tool segments your actual hair and shifts color while preserving luminance and texture — highlights, shadows, and shine still look like your hair.

Which shade should I try first?

Near your natural depth for low-risk change; a fashion shade if you're committed to upkeep. Each shade links to its full Salon 1150 guide with skin-tone advice, cost, and maintenance.

Can I show the result to my colorist?

That's what the download button is for — clearer than describing "kinda dark purple but not too purple."

Why only 20 shades instead of 100+?
